Selangor to have almost 15,000 cops on duty during polling day


SHAH ALAM: Selangor police are well prepared for GE14 polling day, and will deploy almost 15,000 to the streets on Wednesday (May 9).

Police spokesperson for GE14 Asst Comm Nordin Manan said 13,695 policemen will be deployed around Selangor, with a further 1,124 policemen brought in from other states.

During a press conference at the state police headquarters here on Tuesday (May 8) he added that they were also prepared in case of any untoward incidents.

He also reminded political parties that the campaigning period ends at midnight.

“All campaigning activities have to end by midnight. All parties contesting must ensure that they adhere to this.

“The police will take action against those found campaigning after this period,” he said.

As of Tuesday, Selangor police have received 144 police reports during the campaigning period, with 53 investigation papers opened so far.

ACP Nordin also advised voters to leave early on polling day and to car pool to polling stations if possible.

“There will be no road closures at the polling stations, only road diversions if the situation requires, he said.

He also advised all party supporters not to provoke others on polling day.
