Back Barisan, MAICCI urges Indians

KUALA LUMPUR: Indian voters should back Barisan Nasional to enjoy continuous progress, says Tan Sri Kenneth Eswaran (pic).

The Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) president said they would give their full support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Barisan in this general election.

Eswaran said this was due to Barisan’s good track record in assisting the Indian and Indian-Muslim communities.

“MAICCI fully supports Najib’s leadership and we urge all Malaysians to give full mandate to Barisan,” he said after chairing a meeting at the MAICCI House yesterday.

He said the Barisan government had always placed importance on issues affecting the Indian and Indian-Muslim communities, exemplified by initiatives such as the Malaysian Indian Blueprint launched in April last year.

“For the past nine years under Najib’s helm, the Indian community, which is around 7% of the population, has received about RM1bil for the upkeep of 523 existing Tamil schools and seven new ones.

“In comparison, what has Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad done for the Indian community during his 22 years in office?” he said.
