Stoke crossbow siege enters second day after man ‘threatens health workers’

Armed police have been called to the scene of a siege after a man was said to have threatened health workers with a crossbow.

The stand-off at a flat in Chell Heath, Stoke-on-Trent, started shortly after 2.20pm on Thursday after officers were called in to support health staff undertaking a planned visit.

While at the flat on Catharine Road, members of partner agencies were threatened by a man in his 30s, police said.

Staffordshire Police said in a statement: “This morning specialist officers remain at the scene, including armed police and specially trained negotiators.

“We continue to negotiate with the man to bring this incident to a safe and peaceful resolution and get him the support he needs.

“We’d like to reassure residents that there is no risk to the public as our officers will remain in the area.”

The force added that they did not believe there were any hostages in the property.
